nombre/name:
-U! a.k.a. Uriel Aurelio Duran Muñoz
nacido/born:

In Mexico City on Monday 5th April,1976 at noon (so, I'm an Aries with Leo ascending, born in the year of the Fire Dragon, under the wolf totem-sign). By the by, when I was born there was a waxing crescent moon.

en cuanto a lo que soy y hago/about what i am and what i do:

By career and principles, I'm a freelance illustrator and designer. On the practice, let's say that I simply love doing drawings somewhere between naive pop and conceptual kitschy —kinda, but who am I to tell?
Anyway, thing is I've made quite many illustrations for diverse publications, although I've also worked on several sequential art projects, both printed comic books and webcomics.
Besides doing doodles, I'm an occasional published writer specialized in comics, sub and counterculture for both online and printed publications. I have also written scripts for radio.

Whenever I'm not doing that former stuff, I like to play videogames, read, surf in the internet and TV channels, eat chocolate, drawing some more, daydream and listen music —lots of music.
Sometimes I growl, howl to the moon and need to be taken outside to stretch my legs, but don't worry, I don't bite and I had all my shots (Anybody out there willing to adopt me?).

Young Liars: Vol. 1 Daydream Believer by David Lapham.
Heard a lot of good things about this comic back when it was still published as a series but since local retailers suck I couldn't get any issues. Then the series got cancelled but fortunately was reprinted as a TPB.And now I have 2 wishes:one, that I could have read this story before, and the other, that I get the other books very soon since the book finishes with a cliffhanger. The story is simply great...it's a wild ride from cover to cover, spiced with violence, madness and weirdness (Robert Rodriguez would die and kill for the chance of making a movie about this story). You couldn't expect less when the main characters are a junky transvestite,a thirty-something loser that still depends of his father,a bullimic ex-model,a groupie wanna-be,an frustrated musician and a girl crazier than a classic cartoon character because of a bullet in her brain —and meeting them is just the begining.

Songs EP by Kate Micucci
Kate Micucci is a girl everybody would like to marry. She's cute,an actress,a comedian, she can draw, builds sand castles and also plays the piano and the ukulele —talk about talent,ah?
Ah,but she also writes and sings some really great songs.Someone once told me that you never discover music,it's music the one that finds you right in the moment when you need it.Well,I must say that Kate's EP found me in a very good moment,as it helped me overcome some exisential doubts and depression I had.All I can say about her songs wouldn't make them enough justice,so don't hesitate and buy, steal or do whatever you must for getting this EP.Trust me,you won't regret it.

Killing Girl:A Sister's Love by Glen Brunswick,Frank Espinosa & Toby Cypress
«What if the Mafia had their own secret service...?» And so starts this story.Of course and as expected, there're lots of action with bullets flying everywhere. But in the end,the story is about this girl whom discovers that she had a life —and a sister— before becoming an assassin for the Mafia. And then it's actually a tale about love among sisters, and about the meaning of true love in the end...okay,that sounds a bit cheesy, but trust me,that's not what this story is.Plus, the art is pure eye-candy with an interesting mix of high contrast shadows and abstract colors.

Batman

Batman #686 & Detective Comics #853 by Neil Gaiman & Andy Kubert
There seems to be a trend on superhero comic books about making them conscious of their nature as fictional characters. It sure can be used for creating interesting stories but not many writers are skilled enough for doing that.Fortunately that's not Gaiman's situation and in this two part story —meant to be the last Batman story— he also manages to provide a story with multiple endings, playing a bit with the idea of how is possible that there are many stories about Batman's death(s) yet his comics are published as ongoing series without stopping. And then there's the way on which Andy Kubert recreated some of the styles on which Batman has been portrayed.
A really fun story, and both a good starting and finishing point for reading Batman comics.

Captain America:Red,White & Blue

Captain America: Red, White & Blue by Paul Dini, Paul Pope, Peter Kuper, Mark Waid, Evan Dorkin, Bruce Timm, & lotsa more people.
The first part of this book is simply great:many artists tell short stories about Captain America using only the colors red, white and blue (hence the title of the book). Some are funny, some are quite dramatic and some others are really epic.
Then there's a longer story in full color exploring what would happen if the character were killed in one of his adventures. It is mostly about the impact of the death of a symbol,so it's an interesting point of view.
The last part...ugh.It features articles and interviews related to the The Death Of Captain America storyline —not the one in the book, but the official event published by Marvel Comics.I found it very boring,so I skipped that part.Well,it's a minor detail,as all the other contents are really good.
